Automated Asphaltene Stability S-value Analyzer
ASTM D7157, ISO PAS 23263, CIMAC guidelines
Asphaltenes are defined as the insoluble fraction in n-heptane and soluble in toluene and represent the heavier and more complex fraction of crude oils, residual re?nery streams, fuel oils or marine fuels. Asphaltene’s tendency towards precipitation and deposition often causes serious problems in upstreaam and downstream operations: sludge formation, filter plugging and loss of pipes efficiency. To keep the asphaltenes in solution and have a stable fuel, there should be a balance between the fuel and asphaltene aromaticity. When considering the practical effects of stability, it is not necessary to know the complete chemistry of the fuel. For most applications it is sufficient to know intrinsic asphaltene stability parameters to evaluate stability reserve and to predict the stability & compatibility characteristics. The intrinsic stability (S-value) of an oil containing asphaltenes is an indication of available solvency power with respect of asphaltenes peptization. The higher is the S-value, the less risk of asphaltenes precipitation.
The SV10 revolutionizes the S-value testing, by introducing the first fully automated instrument complying with ASTM D7157, which includes a unique, temperature controlled, high precision measuring cell (License TOTAL RC).
The SV10 is bringing a major improvement in handling, accuracy and test duration. Straightforward and user friendly, the SV10 does not need any operator action during the test or application expert: it comes with all programs ready for the different sample types described in ASTM D7157.
Beyond the ASTM D7157 standard report of S-value, So , and Sa, the SV10 calculates additional values as IN (Insolubility Number) and SBN (Solubility Blending Number), as well as the estimation of stability reserve and blending potential, allowing to predict compatibility and increase efficiency of blending operations.
In addition, the SV10 eliminates all safety risks linked to the manipulation of hazardous solvents.
The SV10 is the modern and valuable analytical tool for the research, refineries, blenders and trade
